Biography:
Atom™ (real name Uwe Schmidt) is a German composer, musician, and the mind behind Lassigue Bendthaus. He began making music in the early 1980’s, first playing drums, then switching to programming a drum computer after he had heard a Linn Drum on the radio. In 1986 he debuted Lassigue Bendthaus’ first single, “The Engineer’s Love,” was released. Despite being well received, it would take a long four years until fan would get a follow-up release in the form of a full-length album. Entitled, “Matter,” the album showed Lassigue Bendthaus was more than just another German EBM band. Part techno, part EBM, part experimental ambient, “Matter” turned heads for fact that it didn’t quite fit the category and already incorporated musical elements of the 1990s.

In 1993 Lassigue Bendthaus returned with “Cloned,” a highly experimental concept album consisting nine mutated version of a single “cloned” set of audio tracks. That same year, Schmidt would return to the studio to recording his explicitly cyberpunk themed album, “Render.” Experimental, cerebral, and cutting-edge, “Render” was a merged the high-tech of techno/ebm minimalism with the lowlife edge of samples taken from a Lou Reed song. The album is packed full of cyberpunk elements–clipped samples of Japanese television, modem tones, lyrics perception and digital reality. Render is truly a classic of cyberpunk as music.

Lassigue Bendthaus’ final album, “Pop Artificielle” came in 1999. Entitled “Pop Artificielle,” the LP caused a worldwide stir in the music media with its glitch heavy, electronic cover versions of famous pop and rock songs.
