Black Magic (ブラックマジック, Burakku Majikku) began as cyberpunk manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, then later adapted into the OVA Black Magic M-66 (ブラックマジック M-66マリオシックスティシックス, Burakku Majikku Mario Shikkusuti Shikkusu) in 1987 which was directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo. AIC and Animate provided the animation/production while Bandai Visual was chosen as the distributor.

The OVA is very loosely based on one of the chapters of the manga about a freelance reporter who stumbles on a desperate military operation. An army chopper has crashed and its cargo has been activated. Now there are two killer androids running loose in the wilderness and have targeted the grand daughter of their inventor. Can the journalist rescue this young girl from these out-of-control military android? Can the army stop the droids at all?
